I ran a very well attended webinar today (YAY). In a poll, well over 70% said “lack of time/resources”. WHY is it that fundraisers think legacy marketing is time intensive and “big stuff”? IT ISN’T. Some of the best legacy programmes can take two minutes a day and can be carried out by ALL members of staff, leaders and volunteers. OMG after 35 years we still have not conquered mindset change in so many charities/non-profits. Yes, it is Mr Grumpy ranting again! A legacy gift is the same value as a donor giving £5 a month ($6.60 or euros6 or au$9.5) for 600 YEARS. A challenge to all fundraisers: set aside 5 minutes each day to integrate legacy messaging into supporter communications. Let’s not forget: legacy giving is due to double globally in the next 15 years to $150 billion. NO OTHER SOURCE OF INCOME CAN MATCH LEGACY INCOME GROWTH. And donations are NOT increasing.
